21-Day Fast

Each year, our church takes 21 days in the month of January to intentionally seek the Lord. The purpose of fasting is to set aside earthly things so that we can grasp hold of the heavenly. Join us as we consecrate, commit and set the tone for the new year.

FAQs

What is fasting?

Fasting is not just denying yourself food or an activity, but it is exchanging the needs of the physical body for those of the spiritual. Fasting has been a spiritual discipline in the lives of many of the great spiritual leaders throughout history. It is well documented that the Apostle Paul, Martin Luther, and John Calvin all made fasting a regular part of their spiritual lives. John Wesley fasted every Wednesday and Friday, and even required the clergy under him to do the same. However, it is important to keep in mind that there is no “formula fast” or one “right” way. Fasting is about the condition of the heart.

What should I fast?

Our goal in fasting is to create closer intimacy with Christ. So, while fasting in the Bible always involved the abstention of food, some choose to fast from something such as media, TV, or the internet.

How do I prepare for fasting?
Pray about what God would want you to fast during this time. Maybe it’s refraining from one meal a day, abstaining from certain foods, or from something such as media. Either way, it should result in you having more concentrated time to devote to prayer.

If you are abstaining from certain foods or certain meals throughout the day, it may be helpful to begin by eating smaller meals before the fast. Cutting down on your meals a few days before you begin the fast will signal your mind, stomach, and appetite that less food is acceptable.
