Devotional: Revival

February 17 2019
Posted by Pastor Jake

Revival can be defined as a spiritual awakening from a state of dormancy in a believer, church, local, or global community in a supernatural way. It sparks a passion for His word, holiness, a convicting awareness of sin, and a desire to live righteously. God pours out His spirit not because we are great people, but because He is a great God. Hebrews 11:16 says “He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”  He is looking for willing people with a heart of wanting God to do more. We have heard about many revivals that happened throughout the last few centuries, and can expect He will do it again. Revival starts with us first. We need to seek God, cry out to Him, and have a great expectation He will use us to start a revival in our families, relationships, workplaces, country, and world.

Questions for Meditation

  1. What can cause spiritual dormancy? Can you identify any areas of your life where spiritual dormancy or complacency has crept in?
  2. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” If 2 Chronicles 7:14 describes on pathway to revival, how could this passage flesh-out personally in your life?
  3. In what areas of your life would you like to see revival? What are the steps you can take to get there?
