Devotional: How To Love Someone When They Don’t Deserve It

May 26 2019
Posted by Pastor Jake

God has defined love all throughout the Bible. Romans 5:8 tells us this about love: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God freely gave us the gift of salvation even though we have done nothing to deserve it.

It is easy to love someone when you feel they deserve it, but when the love of God fills our heart it changes our relationships. The love of God is most powerful when it’s shared with those who least deserve it.

Questions for Meditation

  1. Who in your life do you feel is hard to love?
  2. God demonstrated his love to us. What are some tangible ways to demonstrate love with someone who requires extra grace?
  3. The Bible says in Luke 6:32, “If you love those who love you what credit is that to you?” The Word also says to love your enemies. What do you gain by loving your enemies?
  4. When Jesus went to the cross, He showed us what it means to love. Love requires you to lay your life down at any cost. What are some things in your life that you need to lay down in order to love others who are difficult?
