Devotional: Trading Condemnation for Courage

June 03 2019
Posted by Pastor Jake

Condemnation is a post-salvation feeling of self-judgment. First John says “If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts and knows everything.” The enemy wants to block us from receiving the fullness of God’s grace and love for us. Jesus died on the cross and paid for all of our sins so we can live in intimacy with Him. We need to settle our salvation, apply God’s promise to the situation and put our feelings in check. When there is no condemnation, we are able to have confidence.

Questions for Meditation

  1. It is important to know the difference between condemnation and conviction. Take some time to write the definitions of both and meditate on the difference. What is the Holy Spirit showing you?
  2. Feelings lie to us all the time. Feelings do not determine Gods truth. What is Gods truth for your life?
  3. When condemnation comes, call on the promises of God!  Romans 8:1 says “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Write down three Scriptures you can use to declare truth over the lies of condemnation?
