Devotional: A Fighting Spirit

December 01 2019
Posted by Pastor Toledo

As humans, when we operate in our default mode we can easily forget that we are constantly in a spiritual battle. The fight is taking place right now and right here, and therefore every Christian needs a fighting spirit. To fight well we need to recognize something and then we need to do something. First, we must recognize that if we know God’s position as our Helper then we won’t leave our position in the fight. God is the one who ultimately fights our battles, and this provides us great comfort. Second, we need to stand our ground. We cannot retreat from the front lines of the battle for the Kingdom of God.

Questions for meditation

  1. How do Christians fight the battle of faith? List at least three different tools that God has entrusted to us.

  2. The enemy is always saying, “tomorrow you can fight this battle,” whereas God is always bidding us to fight in his battles today. What Kingdom conflicts have you been putting off for the future that you ought to be engaging in today?

  3. We cannot expect victory in battles that God isn’t involved in. In other words, if we are battling something that is not in His will, we have no reason to believe that we are going to win. What are some of the current battles that we can be sure God wants us participating in?

  4. What differences do you see about how close you were to God during seasons of deep victory as opposed to times when you felt defeated?
