Devotional: Cry Out More Than Once

February 16 2020
Posted by Pastor Jake

There are many situations in life where it is hard to see God at work, and it looks like there is no hope of being heard by God.

This was the case for two blind men that encountered Jesus on his way out of Jericho. The blind men cried out to Jesus for mercy, but they were not heard the first time. However, the blind men cried out again, and Jesus had compassion on them and healed them. Just like these blind men, Jesus calls us to cry out to him again.

Questions for Meditation

  1. Sometimes, our circumstances do not line up with what Scripture says about the character of God. What are some scenarios that you see that seem to contradict the character of God you see in Scripture?

  2. Two blind men cried out to Jesus, seeking to be healed, but Jesus kept walking. However, they are told by the crowd to “be quiet” (Mt. 20:31). What are some things in your life that are telling you to “be quiet”?

  3. Even though the blind men were told to be quiet, they cried out again! This causes Jesus to stop where he is and turn to them. Why do you think he did this? What was so special about the second time they cried out?

  4. There are some things that we pray for that are fixed and cannot change. But then there are some that are completely dependent upon your response, like the blind men. What are some things that God is moving you to cry out for again?
