Devotional: Father’s Day Sermon

June 21 2020
Posted by Pastor Toledo

Father’s Day is a day that means a variety of things for a variety of people. For some, it is joyful remembrance for the father who has played such an integral part in their life. For others, this day can bring up frustration, anger, and sadness in remembrance of a father who has not been there, physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

However, as Christians we all have access to our loving, caring, faithful, and good Heavenly Father. Whatever experience you may be bringing with you today of your earthly father, our Heavenly Father calls us sons and daughters, and delights when we experience his fatherly affection for us.

Questions for Meditation

  1. What is God’s heart for those who do not have a father in their life?

  2. Why is it significant that Jesus tells us to pray to God as “Our Father” in the Lord’s Prayer?

  3. What is God’s heart for those who have a poor example for a father?

  4. What does the story of Josiah tell us about God’s power to overcome generational chains of habit?

  5. What is God’s heart as a Father to us, his children?
