Mom’s Devotional — Day Four

READ

Proverbs 31:17-19 (emphasis on v. 17)

A wise woman has strong arms

REFLECT

Sporting a red bandana, blue denim shirt and a flexed bicep, Rosie the Riveter declared to women everywhere We Can Do It. Originally a campaign poster designed to recruit women to serve in defense positions during World War II, it has now become an iconic image of women’s strength. Turns out, it’s also a pretty good visual representation of Proverbs 31:17.

Verse 17 in the Hebrew language literally means “she girds her loins with strength.” This is a call for an engaged, vigorous, ‘ready for action’ kind of strength. If this seems like an odd thing to include in a chapter about women, consider the physical strength required just to give birth to a child!

Our most important training will always be in spiritual things, but training our bodies also has value as well (1 Timothy 4:7-8). This may look very different for each woman, and in different seasons of life. The goal is not vanity or an unhealthy fixation on the body, but rather being capable workers, ready for whatever the Lord might call us to do.

RESPOND

What are some practical ways you can improve your overall physical health? If body image issues have been a struggle for you, confess this to the Lord and ask Him to give you a healthy view of your body. Consider setting one or two goals for physical health and asking a sister-in-Christ to join you!
