In our day, fear is all around us. We are bombarded with bad news from every side, whether personal or societal. But Ezekiel 37:1-14 shows us that what we really need is to hear from God in order for God to align our lives with Him. Today, much like in Ezekiel’s day, the people of God have begun to de-identify with God and the way that He has called us to live. Culture has pulled the Church more and more into its territory and our lives have become mis-aligned with God’s word. Culture makes us lose appetite for God and lose our Christian convictions, just like Israel in Ezekiel’s day. Our bones become dried up and lifeless without God. But God is seeking to re-align and restore His people today by the power of His Spirit, just like He did in Ezekiel’s day. This passage shows that God aligns us when we posture our hearts to hear from Him, acknowledge that our situation is dead without Him, and confess that we belong to Jesus Christ and are marked as His possession forever.

 

Questions For Meditation

  1. In what ways have you felt culture pulling you away from your identity in Christ and the culture of the Kingdom? Why is re-alignment so important?
  2. Why does alignment begin with our posture? Posture towards who or what? What do we seek (and find) when we posture our hearts?
  3. Why does God ask us questions? What do God’s questions reveal about you and where you are? What do they reveal about God and where He is taking you?
  4. Why is acknowledging everything to God the critical first step for a divine exchange with God?
  5. What does acknowledgement to God accomplish in a desperate and dead situation? What does acknowledgement teach us about the power of language and the Word?
  6. Why does confessing Jesus Christ lead to alignment? What does confession have to do with freedom and condemnation from sin? 
  7. Why does Christ realign us? Has Christ given you an assignment for 2022? Are you ready to posture your heart, acknowledge God’s word and confess Jesus Christ so that you can hear from God as Ezekiel did?
