How Are You Living?
It’s amazing to see how much God says to His children through one verse: “That man is like a tree…” (Psalm 1:3).
When we think about a healthy tree, we know they have strong roots underground, are able to endure the seasons, and eventually bear fruit. God’s desire for us is to live like that–to be “like a tree”–and that is the abundant life. In order to live in abundance, though, we must, similar to a tree, be privately healthy and publicly fruitful. A strong root system will give life to fruitful and abundant branches. This is your inner life and walk with the Lord, and your public service to Him.
Psalm 1 says:
“Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Our hope is that as you journey with us the next ten weeks, you would root yourself deep in the Lord so that you can be used in fuller and more fruitful ways for His kingdom, in order to live a blessed, abundant life! And that next time you’re asked how you are living, you can say, “I am living like a tree!”
